Hi
Me again sorry for all the questions but have just become interested in oif convoy escorts, guntrucks etc and have seen photos of his armoured car in use in Iraq.
A google search turned up a communitywebshots page where the guy has scratch built a 1/35 m1117 and it looks great, i was wondering if plans are available and again the problem of the correct wheels, the turet can come of a tamiya aav.
Cheers and thanks for your help.

Could you post the link to that site? I'd like to see the scratchbuilt M1117. Seems to be a lot like the V-100 Cadillac-Gage Commando in general layout. Being able to pirate the Tamiya AAV turret would be a big help!

Hi
Dont know if this will work but here goes
http://community.webshots.com/album/337784942iduXSS
If that doesnt work then go to the site and do a search for m1117 guardian a couple of the pics should come up, by viewing one you can link to the homepage and find the album, some other good model albums there aswell.
Hopefully the builder visit this site and can ome up with some more info on the build.
cheers
Peter

Very nice indeed. Since the Verlinden Trophy Series V-100 was produced as a solid brick of resin, maybe the same could be done using this scratchbuild as a master???

Hi
Ive managed to find some more this build, it was built for a contest over on missing lynx and was scratch built using 1/48th drawings out of the Huniccutt book of US armoured cars and pics from vol5 journal armoured assault heli warfare.
Wheels used were modified from tank workshop hemmit wheels.
As far as using it as a master the same question was asked over there but at the tim the builder was tied up on other projects.
cheers

The modeller in question is Shane MacKay and yes he did build the M1117 for a contest on Missing Lynx. I know this because I shot a number of photos of that very nice build for him not so long ago.
Shane is well know in town for scratch building somewhat esoteric subjects. He regularly takes flak from another local modeller for building so much engineering equipment. Shane's response was to build a bright yellow airfield refueler/tanker truck!
I'll let Shane know about this thread because he would probably like to add his own comments about his work.
Cheers - Dan
PS: That V-100 of his is completely scratch built (it's not the Verlinden brick).

Hi Shane
To start with great looking model youve got there of the m1117 along with all the others on your site, concerning the guardian ive got a bunch of questions for you.
How long did it take from start to finish?
Other than the hunicuutt book and the concorde armored assault book did you have any other good reference sources?
Planwise did you just up scale the plan out of the hunnicutt book?
I believe you used hemmtt wheels by tankworkshop, what mods did you have to do to them?
Did you use the tamiya aav ugs turret?
Lastly do you have any plans to use it as a master to cast any for sale, i would be up for one?
I hope thats not to many in one go.
cheers
Peter

Well from start to finish aprox. 3 months.
Other than the hunicuutt book and the concorde armored assault book did you have any other good reference sources?
Other than those two sources Prime Portal is a great photo resource page. With pictures being taken by modelers for modelers.
Planwise did you just up scale the plan out of the hunnicutt book?
nope took the measurements in the book checked them to the V100 in the book and went from there since they're built by the same company just adifferent name. I used the old Verlinden brick as a guide.
I believe you used hemmtt wheels by tankworkshop, what mods did you have to do to them?
Pretty much used as is except for the plate over the hub that was from Styrene sheet.
Did you use the tamiya aav ugs turret?
Actually mine scratch built but you would still have to modify the AAV's turret to get back right and the top is a flat surface.
Lastly do you have any plans to use it as a master to cast any for sale, i would be up for one?
Thats a good Question , we'll see what happens after I get the Coyote conversion completed. Cause others also want me to look into building the Gamma goat as kit as well.
