Of course the rest of you can read this post as well, but this is an answere to this post, when Red disagreed on my "Open Bolt" 50. cal. I promised Matt a better answere so here is my try. I have no idea what most parts are called in english so my explanation will be pretty simple. The conversion is done to prevent the rounds from overheating in a hot chamber, and accidential go off, since we use MP ammunition only.

This picture shows the Ringmount (Attached to the vehicle), The softmount (Reduce the recoil for more accurat fire. The 50. cal can not be fired without it) And the sight (for ground and arial targets). What is important is the softmount. This is the trigger for the 50. cal. The normal trigger on the HMG has been removed and now you have a safety switch there instead.

This is unfortunatly NOT a converted 50.cal, but I talked to one of our weapons tech officers, and he tried to explain to me what has been done to the HMG. First of all you don't have the usual trigger at all. The whole trigger mechanisme and the lid has been rebuilt so it works more like a M-240 or MG-3. When you cock the weapon the bolt stays in an open position with the help of the rebuilt lid and the new trigger which is situatet on the left side of the weapon (I think). Each HMG and softmount is trigger adjusted and is not interchangable unless you adjust it for the new weapon. I realise that this explanation really s@@k, but believe me, it fires from an open bolt. I will try to get some pics with the lid open, it's abit easier to see the difference from the original .50 HMG

Howdy Erik. Pardon my ingnorance, what is "MP" ammo. I am not familiar with that designation. I only know you cannot spell "WIMP" without it. Out here.

MP = Multi purpose. Nasty piece of kit which explode when it hit the target. Used against softskin- and light armoured vehicles.

Is it called the Mark 211 .50 Cal MultiPurpose Ammunition? If so, it is sort of like our Aluminium Tiped Armor Peircing/Incendiary rounds with explosives added?
Sorry, I justed googled the different type of ammo for the .50.

Same stuff, Pete. Actually a Norwegian invention by a company called "Raufoss Ammunisjonsfabrikk" sometime in the early 80s.

I'd really like to see some pictures of the guts. It'd be interesting to see a 50 round hanging on the face of the bolt.

What type of links are you using?
