It may be a moot point since I already bought the kit, but I was wondering what the experts thought of the accuracy of Dragons King Tiger kit. I picked it up for $19 at my local Hobby Lobby. It came with PE, an aluminum barrel, etc., etc.
It's the first German tank I ever purchased, so I'm interested in knowing a bit more about it. It looked like a nice kit and at half off, I couldn't pass it up.

No worries mate, you have a fine model, and with the metal barrel and PE, sounds like you got the most recent of the kit releases (Dragon does at least three different KT kits, I believe). And at half off, you got a great deal as well (gotta love Hobby Lobby half-off sales!).

Dragon does excellent kits and with the inclusion of a metal tube and PE set for $19 you got a super deal. Enjoy the kit

A great deal for that Dragon kit. Don't you just love half-off sales? You would be lucky t find that kit for that price on eBay.
That King Tiger would look great in a end of war diorama.

Semper Fi!

Hi Darryl,
As others have already said the Dragon kit is nice. I just wanted to let you know of a possible error. Depending on which kit you got, and if it was part of the early run, the aluminum barrel could be misproportioned (is that a word? ). The kit is # 6232 Late production Kingtiger, the aluminum barrel is the right length but the larger section is too short. I understand this was corrected in latter produced kits.

Cheers,
Mike

Thanks guys!

Mike,
I have #6232, but it gives me two different gun shield options. Would one of those help correct the shortage in the barrel? If not, do you know how much material would have to be added, and on which end?

Darryl,
No, it doesn't matter which gun shield you use it wouldn't help. Also, it's not a case of the whole barrel being too short, the barrel itself is the correct length when taken altogether. The problem is that the larger section of the barrel, the section that inserts into the gun shield, is too short, and the thinner section is too long. That's what is out of proportion. The easiest way to figure out whether or not you got one of the duds is to compare it to the plastic barrel in the kit, it is correct. If they are the same then you have a good one, if not...oh well, as I said the plastic one is correct. I hope all this made sense.

Thanks Mike. I guess I'll have to tear it open and determine which one I have.

Francois,
Thanks for the tip. It'll be awhile before I dive into this one, but I plan to continue doing research. Are the kit tracks accurate?

Mike,

I opened the kit and after comparing the plastic barrel with the metal one and they are both the same. Looks like I have the good one. Thanks for all your help.
