I know the Pak 43/41 gun had a 'pet' name given to it by the crews that translated to 'barn door' or 'stable door' due to it's unwieldy nature, but....

.... I've seen it written in German as 'Scheuntor' or Scheunentor' ...which is correct? I need this for the dio I've built. Anyone....?

Actually the german word for barn or shed is "scheune", so it should be scheunetor. Just an "e" no "n".
I looked it up in a dictionary to be sure.

This is the same thing as schwimmwagon or kubelwagon. The German language doesn't know the word "wagon", it should be "wagen". This is a mistake I see a lot on this web site.

Assuming AFV Club have done their research correctly the spelling is "Scheuntor" (well that is what the boxtop on mine says)

Thanks guys - that's 3 options now but Pascal's response may be the more accurate one to use. This is why I've asked the question...It's the AFV club kit I've built and I put a nameplate and called it 'Scheuntor' referencing the AFV Club box art. I've Googled the name and of course it comes up differently. It's a homemade nameplate so it's reletively easy to change. Hmmm....... Can our friends in Germany help??

Just wanted to add another comment:
I've seen boxtops with the wrong spelling before. I don't know from which country AFV club is, but Asian manufacturers do get European names wrong sometimes, because they are not familiar with our characters.

I heard that the Chinese copied a well know toy brand and named it 0637 because they read it upside down:
LEGO.
(I don't know if this is true, just thought it was funny)

Talked to a German guy yesterday and it turns out I am mistaking; It is "scheunentor" after all.

An n is added when you combine scheune with tor.

My apologies for the mistake.

Thanks everyone!!....mystery solved. I'll change my nameplate from Scheuntor (as on the kit boxtop and other web references) to Scheunentor.
