Hello folks,

after dwelling around in here for over 3 years I never showed anything of my work. Time to change that. This is the only model I managed to nearly complete within the last year. It was originally designated for the Spaehwagen-Abteilung-campaign, but due to time issues I had to re-sign.

The Sd.Kfz. 222 is the re-released Tamiya-Kit from the 1970s that comes with aluminium-turne barrel and extra PE for the grenade-shields. An extra sprue with barrels and jerry cans is included as well.

There are a few modifications I made during the build-process:
All external tools were replaced by the ones from Tamiyas Pz. IV tool set.
The indicators poles are from an AFV-Club brass-set. The MG-34-barrel has been cut off and has been replaced by a spare one from dragon due to the much finer detail. Steel-wire used mainly for RC-models has been used as antenna.
To use the new jerry cans provided with the kit, I build the jerry cans holders from scratch out of brass sheet. The bolts are made of plastic sprue.
Finally the vehicle as a complete scratch-built interior made of various kinds of copper-wire and plastic sheet as well as spare parts from various kits. Since you don't see nearly anything at the completed model this extra work was totally nuts.

The paint job was performed with a basic airbrush and tamiya acrylics. All details have been painted with Vallejo acrylics. Finally the model received washings with oil-color and dry-brushing with revell enamels.

As last step I want to weather the model with pigments to give it a more dirty look, but I'm far to much of coward to perform it. I already started a thread about the use of pigment: Link to it

The model shall depict a fictious vehicle of a recon platoon part of the 10th Panzer Division on their advance on Moscow in late 1941.

Comments, improvements and constructive critisism welcome.

Hey Patrick,
I think you did a fantastic job. The model looks excellent, nice and clean. Maybe it's the pics, but your wash and drybrush doesn't show up very well, maybe do a second round on both? As for the pigments, just go for it!! Give it a try, a little here and there-around the tires, wheel wells, and along the lower half of the vehicle will reallly dress it up. Add a few streaks leading down from corners, and under the visors and tools. Good luck, hope this helps.

Nice Clean build! It's nice that you went as far as to replace the tools and scratch build the interior and brass indicator.

Here's some more things you can add:

1. wiring under the turret antenna,
2. add helmet strap the helmet look like its hanging from the jerry can holder.

3. quick release for the shovel. You can use a piece of tin foil to create... no PE needed.

4. paint the rearview mirror!

Great job!

thx for your nice comments.

as regarding the wash & drybrush it may be the pics although i could do a more intense drybrushing. it was the first time i ever applied an oil wash to a model.
the model looks due to light and flash issues far lighter than in reality.

maybe i will go for the streaks. want bdo you recommend on doing them? oil-color-wash or enamels with turpentine to blur the streaks.

i added a helmet strap to the jerry can holder. never make suggestions while a man eats his yoghurt at the screen. the strap is made of the yoghurt's cap-foil

shame on me. i forgot the rear-mirror. any color-recommendations here? i thought of vallejo-silver.

for the wiring beneath the antenna it might be to late.
