Hi everyone. Long time lurker, first time poster.
I thought I'd share my plans for my first diorama (vignette?) and hopefully get some feedback.
Clicking the thumb below will open my blog in a new window, where I discuss the diorama and my intentions. Would be happy for any comments either here or on the blog.
Thanks,
Chris Kerns

The M8 looks really well built. I love the tree, may add a few stray leaves on it.
The fence to me is to large, to tall.
I like the idea of a destroyed PAK sitting on the road.

Nice layout which really fits the shape of your base nicely. I think your idea of the jeep on the cobblestones is not a bad idea even without a driver. I find the fence slightly out of place. Like Scott I find it a bit tall too. Any thoughts about replacing it with a low picket fence?

First of all,Welcome to the Big A,Chris!Nicest site I've found to hang at.
I like your dio and it's goal a lot and you have done a really good job so far IMO.What I suggest is instead of a weapon or jeep, use a farmer's cart with a broken wheel, kilted over some, kinda angled off the road way towards the tree(great tree!!).Weather the hell out of the cart.Pile the snow around it and on the tree limbs.Lots of icicles from the tree and cart too!Mud and dirty snow make good visuals for discomfort along with the icicles, etc. If you really want to show bleak and despair, and this is kinda a controversial call on your part, but a dead horse or mule partially buried in the snow with the cart would be pretty powerful.Up to you, always! Oh,I would remove the fence.Just doesn't add to the scene or your goal.
another 2 pennys for the box.....
cheers!

Thanks for the feedback guys.
I like the idea of the cart, that is pretty original. I'm leaning towards a PAK 40, right now, though. I'll give it some more thought.
The fence is intented to a type of tall privacy fence, as I want the vehicle to feel as if it is on the edge of a small villiage. However, I think I may tone it down to a small picket type fence. Of course, it is the source of fuel for the fire in the barrel.
Again, thanks to everyone for the comments, and I'll post again when (if?) I make any progress.
Cheers,
Chris Kerns

The cart idea is cool. I do like the PAK also.
I like the idea of a pickette fence or even something like a split rail type of fence.

Nice layout Chris
The others have mentioned some good ideas. Are they here for a while? Or is it opportunistic? What I mean is that if they are there for a while, then there would be more evidence of a camp, not just the drum. Also, when I first looked at it, I thought it was countryside, an thus the cobbled road looked a little out of place maybe? But as you mention edge of town, then the pickets would be a good idea. And if there is no snow present, an off whitish paint scheme would offset the rest well; but then would be a little acrid for their purposes! But that said, to have one or two pickets 'randomly' lying on the ground, leant against the howitzer, this could tie the scenes elements together nicely!
Best of luck
Cheers
