Kevlar outer shell, but the inside material is the same as the outer fabric.

The modern US CVC is basically close-fitting cap, similar to a WWII flyers helmet, with a hard shell plate that velcroes and snaps onto the top to provide bump protection. The cap itself is constructed of sections of soft foam, sewn into a nylon mesh material. Without the hard shell, it looks similar to the leather russian tank helmet of several years ago. (In fact, OPFOR tankers at the US NTC used to wear their helmets without the shell, just for this reason. Don't know if they still do.) The ear cups are hard black plastic with black plastic (foam inside of plastic skin, like the armrests in your car, but softer) cushions on the inside edges. There is a black leather patch in front of each ear cup, where the chinstrap snaps on. The hard shell is actually a curved plate, about 10" wide that fits between the ear cups from nape to brow. It attaches with velcro, with a security strap that snaps at the back, to prevent you from pulling the shell of by catching the back edge on a hatch or fitting. The signigficant difference between the older (hard all over) is the connector plug on the pigtail, which is round/cylindrical instead of the old two-pronged connector. I want to say they were made by Gentex, but that could be wrong.

hey Arengca,

Are you refering to the "new" style as in the ones with the Bose speakers and "old" ones with the radio shack type speakers? Also the Bose have the handy function of being able to flip a switch and amplify the outside noise.

ShermanSam,
if you are interested in pics of a CVC helmet post and let me know. When I go to work monday I'll pull mine out of my wall locker and snap some pics for ya.
