Ola Matt

Maybe you could explain to us how you done the snow? It is kinda hard to figure out the technique you used. And with that where it exactly goes wrong. Maybe you have told it already here in the forums and I could have missed that.
What usually is done when making snow diorama's is that the snow is built up in several layers. Never the whole layer of snow at once. This means you can exactly put the snow where you want and therefore you are able to put the snow as thick as you want.

A bit more information is welcome.

I may be wrong but I think a few drops of dishwashing liquid to the scenic spray will help you from gettting the snowballs.

I usually put down a good layer of elmers white school glue (diluted to about 50/50 between water and glue) sprinkle my snow on, let it dry, then hit it with some hairspray (the pump action bottle, not aerosol) after that, fan it some and see if any comes off, if so, add more snow, then hairspray again! Voila!

Harrison is right, it was a bit hard understanding some of your posts, spelling, grammatical errors, sorry if I'm being an english teacher here, just something that gets to me a little.

Hi Matt
When you spray the base with scenic cement and then cover with snow, you need to let this dry/set. If you spray immediately again with cement, you just blow the snow away and it forms into small balls. This happened to me using microballoons as well.
If you want a thick snow layer, its probably better to use a layer of spackel, or do as Shain suggested, rather than building up layers with scenic snow.
Canīt offer much more ...maybe explaining what you want and a picture would get a better answer! Good luck.

I said nothing about puncuation and grammer. Just some spelling issues that could be fixed by putting a little more time into the posts.

To get back to Matt's original question - perhaps you could post a photo to show us what went wrong. Then some of the experts around this place could give you a more helpfull answer.

English and grammer B.S. aside, I think the problem with the snow is like Frank states, you tryed to put the second layer down before the first had dryed. And I venture to guess that you possibly used a lot more of the spray glue solution than was necessary. Mist coats are all that are needed to add additional 'layers' of snow. But ultimately, I don't think you will acheive the look fo deep snow with layers of 'scenic snow' or micro balloon products....they are really meant to be "top coats" on deep or drifting snow. To create drifts or deep snow you need to create it during the preperation of the dio base instead of creating 'ground' you need to think snow and perhaps layer the groundwork with spackling paste making your drifts, footprints, trackmarks etc. and when you've acheived the look you want, then lightly spray it with a glue solution and sprinkle an even coating of 'scenic snow' to give the impression of deep, yet freshly fallen snow.
Sorry for the long posting but creating a realistic "deep snow" scene is not an easy task!
Good luck in your endevor and I hope to see the finished piece posted.
Charles

Matt, even though it may not have been the most tactful way of saying it, I really think you should consider that you are not making it easy to ready with no capital letters and no punctuation. You don't know how many viewers passed on providing you good information because they didn't want to take the extra time to dechiper your words.

Wow!Your keyboard has a cold! :-) :-)
Matt-If you were trying for the 'deep snow' or drifts look,it's best to buff up the terrain with styrafoam and cover with spackle, plaster,or even grout.

With spackle, you can give it the 'windswept' look with a broad, damp brush. The spackle should be put on as thin as you can because of a tendency to crack if too wet,too thick.

cheers!

harrison,

you should confine your criticism to modelling and going by your post you won't be in American English honours for long.
You could also do with some lessons in humility and manners.

I guess the guys and gal have pretty much covered it. No offense to anyone but the replies here have been quite entertaining seeing as I'm going through my Monday blues.

Matt, I use the methods Frank and Rick (05Sultan) mentioned for doing heavy snow drifts. I build up the layer by styrofoam and then cover with plaster (great coz its white to begin with) and finally baking powder.
