well, after a 2 year break, I'm back to building. Here's the 1st photos of my Dragon M1A1HC Abrams inprocess. I'm going to build it as a 3ID mount though, so I'm going with Archer on the markings, and various stowage bits. Oh, and the Marine equipment will be left off. She unfortunately has a barracks paintjob since that's where I live right now. I used Testors Model Master rattle cans (no airbrush). I painted the Modern Sand color right out on my porch/walkway :-)

so I've been stuck in a NBC Defense course all week. Not much done. I raided my Tamiya M1A2 for the smoke launchers and the styrene panels as I didn't like Dragon's versions. I painted the black base coat today. The final finish of Desert sand is going on tomorrow.
on another note. I think my ordr from GreatModels has arrived in my mailroom. This consisting of the 3ID markings and crew figures. Unfortunately, I can't pick it up til I finish this dang NBC course!

First time i've heard someone taking stuff from a Tamiya kit and placing it onto a Dragon kit. Looking at the top rear of the hull, the Tamiya M1A2 has alot more detail so im quite surprised you stuck with the Dragon hull.
Great progress so far though. Looking forward to seeing more.

yeah, I caught that once I read Vodnik's article, which was after I glued the hulls together. Oh well, next kit. She's all decalled now. The newest pics are on my laptop and I'm using a library computer for posting. Plus I have weathering to do this weekend

Hi Jeremy,
I did it myself for my Dragon USMC M1. The smoke grenades dischargers, the TC cupola, the MCD and maybe a couple more as I built the Tamiya kit into an Army A2.

I did the same, and then some, with my USMC M1A1HC using an Academy hull, DML turret, Tamiya Commander's Cupola, smoke launchers, MCD, and track and some other pieces from a Trumpeter M1A1 as well. It was a real Frankenstien with parts from just about all the M1A1 kits out there.

I think my next M1A1 is going to be the same way. I'm on an Abrams spree right now. Although, since spending my past 2 weeks working with 1st Cav, I have a desire to build a model of one their M1A2 SEP :-)

Wait till the new Dragon M1A1 AIM comes out. Your gonna want to throw all you future M1 kit builds away. They're supposed to come out with an A2 SEP too.

I know we are all anticipating the new Abrams to come out, but what about the older Dragon kit? I am venturing into Modern armour for the first time in years (since I became cognitive of finer detail). Is this a good kit to get? what kind of extras should I get? I see it at my LHS for 20 bucks which I think is a steal, or is it?

The Dragon Abrams kits are quite good. I like them better than the new Tamiya one. $20 is about right, you can get them on-line for about $15 plus shipping. Here is a review of M1 kits out there by Vodnik, so you can see how they stack up.

Gino,
Was wondering if you could direct me to a good on-line place to buy the Dragon Abrams.
Thanks,
Chuck B.

Sure, Great Models Webstore. Just put "Dragon Abrams" in the search field and it will list them all.

got alot done over the weekend. Just needs a finished APU, stowage, and weathering. I'm working on a small display base and crew for it as well
these MRE boxes have been an interesting build itself(hopefully, no Country Captain Chicken in them). Anyone know where I can get the Gulfa water bottle boxes?

Looking good. One issue I see though. Duffle bags should all be dark green. I have never seen sand duffel bags.

ok, I need alittle help with the weathering. So far, I have a basic Burnt Sienna/Black wash done to it. Since this is an OIF tank, I'm thinking a sandy type of dusting is in order? I used the kit decals, I'm also aiming to show the tank right after the huge sand and rain storm that hit on the way to Baghdad. Any tips on how to model the tank for this timeframe?
