I would like to know what would the exhuast pipe color be on the Panzer IV H/J's? Would they be rusted or more of the burnt metal color?

Definitely rusty. Before the exhaust pipes on cars got all stainless steel they used to rust up.

I wonder how long it would take exhaust from back then to rust up

I'd have to guess not very long. Hot exhaust burning off the paint, turning back around and having it get wet. Especially if it were winter, with snow settling on it while in the process of cooling down.

But that's only a guess.

Unless you are building a factory fresh vehicle I would at least rust up the muffler.
