Has anyone heard about the new COMBATT trucks the military is testing? Their thinking about using commercial trucks such as the Dodge Ram.
Well, I decided to try and scratchbuild one. Just one question. What can I use for radio antennaes? I cant seem to find anything that will work. Thanks for the help.

Well, they look pretty cool...but they'll have to convince me. I remember the last time we bought the "toughest available" commercial pickups, etc. They were junk within a few months of soldiering. They were very expensive to buy, and very expensive to repair, seemingly breaking parts that no one ever expected them to break. I remember a laundry list of one of a kind component failures in every motorpool that ever had them. I was glad to see them junked.
So, I can be convinced, but whoever is selling them is going to have to work at it!

For your antenna, you can use 0.2mm metal wire !

I saw one up close at the detroit international autoshow last year (well worth the visit if your within a few hours driving). I didn't take any pictures of it, I wasted all my last photos on an SS Camaro . From memory it looked a whole lot like a regular truck with a severe lift kit on it. The one I saw was a chevy (I think I saw 'Uncle' Bob Seger at the show). Does someone make a Baja truck kit, possibly you could bash with that.

From what I inderstand is that these vehicles will replace the HUMMVs in the corps-level support units. The HUMMVs will be reserved for the front line units. These appear to be much better vehicles than the old Dodge 880-series and the follow-up Chevy CUCVs.

I have a Ford, I would tell my friends not to drive a chev, but I need someone to give me a ride when I'm found on road dead. :-)
The Army should take a page from the old "Simon and Simon" series, Dodge Powerwagons all the way!
