First off - I'm not in any way affiliated with this seller and am not promoting the item to generate a sale.
I was wandering around ebay and saw this diorama and thougth it was a nice example of an action diorama. You don't see these to often and I thought it worth pointing out just to see.

Wow... that's really an action packed scene. Unfortunately no bids yet...
Maybe it's lacking a little bit of blood...

Thanks for sharing Slodder. Its great to get the chance to see it. Good call.
I also like the dio. In reality its not that expensive considering theres 10 Jaguar and warrior figures plus a resin base and this is in turn mounted on a machined base. The choice of figures is my personal favourite. They all suit the scene perfectly.

Great piece, not so great price. It's a good dio, but I doubt anyone will pay that. I guess we will see though.

Actually, I don't think the price is unreasonable (not that I'd ever buy a built model). Some of the figures are a little shiny, but the action is good and the groundwork seems well done. He probaly has quite a few hours in this and spent more than a few $$ on those Jaguar and Warriors figures. To a built dio collector, I'll bet it's a bargian.

I do quite a bit of browsing on ebay looking for models and ideas and I have to tell you , this is one of the most expensive pieces I have seen. And although good, when compared to some of the other offerings on ebay, it is overpriced. The shine on the figures is also just unexcusable, I'm sorry.

I agree. The work is good, but still the price is way out there. I could see $100 or maybe a little more, but you shouldn't start your price that high.

He has 10 figures retailing about $12 each. Rule of thumb is to charge 3 times the cost of the figure for a painted stock figure, so he should be looking at $360 not includuing the ground work.

Pretty nice, thanks for sharing Matt. One thing I find a little distracting is the Russian guy falling off the base. Just personal preference there...

Pricing is quite subjective as far as what someone "WILL" pay for a piece.
I tend to agree with Al about the 3x rule. Based on the price of the raw piece, then the time, resources (paint, sanding paper, glue etc,) it should go for that. So, IMHO 3x is a decent starting point then work from there as far as the artists history, skill, tools used etc.
What I consider a good piece of art my neighbor wouldn't even consider buying for 1/3 of the price.
In this case I think the ebay garage sale stigma hurts the impression too. I know from a personal standpoint I look at ebay as a 'thrift store/garage sale' type of place. I know its not but we all hunt for the bargains.
I say - all the power to him.

The rule of thumb may be the 3X rule, but I in an auction setting I would start lower. Like you said though it's a matter of opinion. It's a great piece don't get me wrong, and well done. I just think it will be a hard sell.
