I am building a Kursk diorama, and here are the pics. The barn is made completely out of wood. They are only Progrees pics!

I am also planning to have both sets of Tamiya Russian figures, and Another tank, but I can't figure out whatkind of Rusky Tank I want to add.

Thank You

-Will

You need to reconsider your painting on the halftrack. The Ambush Pattern was ordered in August 1944 and Kursk took place in July 1943.

The left front wheel (as you're looking at the front) of your halftrack is crooked. It also seems to me that there is a pretty big gap in the front of your T-34.

As for another tank, I think a destroyed one on the road would look good, some more carnage would definetly make this a Kursk diorama

I like it! Though there are some issues that need to be worked out. I would not call this a Kurk diorama. The T-34/85 was not out introduced until 1944, and as said before, Ambush paint was not out until '44 either. I would name it something like "Defending the Motherland" or maybe something a little less cliche. I would also like to see a whole lot of russians, and a one or more tanks. A burned out german tank would be cool too. Some more rubble in house would be cool too

As the others have pointd out you time line does not fit for Kursk. However it can represent many other battles that took place in 1944. Lots of good action.

Thanks, I like the idea of a burned-out tank. I'll have to change to possibly... 'Road to Berlin"

Looking good, William. Lots to look at, and plenty of action. What's the groundwork gonna be like once you're done? I think some more grass and greenery might help.

I can't see your figs too clearly, but the poses look good, particularly the guy vaulting out of the half track. One thing about your figs: I can only make out the paintjob on the running fig next to the half track, and I assume you're trying for a dot pattern. If so, the dots are way too large. Go really tiny with those. More like this:

Keep up the good work, young fellow! You are doing much better than me when I was 14. That is for sure!
Don't worry so much if your diorama is correct when it comes to historical facts. Just build models and have fun. That's what really matters. If you think you are doing great, then who cares what anybody else says.

Don't let these guys scare you. Some of them problably do most of their "modelling" on the internet instead of actually building models anyways :-)
I just think that there are way to many "modellers" that never build a kit, but are more concerned about things like "there is missing one rivet on that AFV". (Not that this description necessarily applys to you guys that replied in this thread)

Just keep up the good work William. What the other guys have said just shows that a couple of hours research can pay dividends on the finished model. I started modelling when I was 7, and didn't build my first dio until I was in my late teens, so you're doing well.
All the comments that you get on this site are meant to help you improve, so don't take them personally.
Please will you show us this one again when you've finished it?

Hey, there's nothing wrong with helpful advice and constructive criticism. My modelling's improved drastically because of pointers from more experienced builders. Backpatting's nice, too, Henrik. So keep it up

I posted my thoughts because I thought that this young man deserves a chance here on Armorama. He has not posted much here, and I guess we should help him in some other way than to ask him to repaint much of his diorama.

When I read the posts in this thread, I was a bit astonished because I often see dioramas made by some of the "regulars" here that is really bad. Then some of the other "regulars" writes how great that diorama is. The diorama made by this young man is much better than many others I've seen here, but he didn't get many cheers.

We should take care of the young ones in this pretty great hobby. To many of them stops modelling when they get to the car/girl age, and they never start again. That's just too bad.

That was this mornings little lecture. Keep modelling guys and girls.

William's dio IS very good, and many 'regulars' & 'irregulars' have said so. There was no criticism of the dio per se, just the Kursk title. The pointers on cam patterns are helpful, I think, and William can decide whether he wants to redo or not.

William, in case I wasn't clear: I think your dio's really good.

Henrik, if you see dio's done by 'regulars' that you think are 'really bad', and you feel you can be helpful with some criticism, you should speak up instead of criticizing those who wanna help.

William, as Dave says, please post more progress pix, coz I think the dio's got a lot of potential. If you can, take it outside and take some pix, so that us older buggers can see it better :-)

BTW, how long have you been working on it?

Hi there William... I think you did a great job. At 14... I'd never dare build such a big diorama! 5 years on... I still don't... :-) . So keep it up... Looking forward to seeing more pictures. Like what David (spooky6) said... try taking the diorama outdoors and snap some shots under the sun. Natural light is always the best (I learnt that here in Armorama )

So... enjoy your modelling!

I do not criticise those who want to help. If I do, it is just constructive criticism.

What I tried to point out is when a guy says "hey, I'm 14 give me a break." , I think we should listen to him and lighten up on the constructive criticism.

William

You are off to an excellent start. What the others have said about the time (name) is true and I think "Road to Berlin" is more apt for the dio.

I know at 14 I was more interested in building models than putting them into dios so very well done.

Some more progress pics would be great - as well as when it is finished.

Brian oops you're only 14 :-)

Ciao Dubdubs,
I certainly admire your ambition! It is going to look great! It takes a lot of guts to build a large dio like that, and you are doing a great job!

That is brilliant so far! I'm 14 as well (though not for much longer ), and I know I wouldn't dare start something on that scale. Keep it up!

Hey Bill
Like the ambitious project mate! Even at the ripe ol age of 30 (I look 22;) I still haven't the cajones to build a dio at this scale! Best of luck, and hey, I don't know a thing about German stuff but I guess those that have offered their 'critique' are well into it. I'm the same with Shermans for example...
Cheers

I like it so far.

One thing I'd suggest - more rubble around the destroyed house (that the T-34 is hiding in). When bulding a diorama, just try to think about all the materials that are present in your house, and then - imagine what it would be like if those materials exploded all over the place! A huge mess (that's fun to make! )

Keep up the good work! ...I also got a kick out of seeing German soldiers evacuate a halftrack under the shadow of a giant toilet. :-)

Dub Dub:

Great dio. I like the structure being demolished by the t34. Simply magnificent. As for other Soviet tanks, perhaps a KV1 or 2 or a JS1. Perhaps a burnt out panther would be cool.

Keep up the good work. Cant wait to see it done

J.H.C!! :-) 14 and getting results like that, watch out folks, in a few years, I have a feeling that this young lad will be taking home trophies!
William, very excellent dio so far. As for the halftrack paint scheme, it's alot easier to change the theme name of a scene than redoing all that work! :-) Glad you're taking on a huge project like this, nothing like diving in with both feet, the last big one I did, took me six months to do, and man was I burnt out after that! Looking very forward to more progress and the end result.
Excellent work!
Cheers
Kelly
