Somebody please start locking this ridiculous topic down. How many of you folks have ever served in a tank unit and has had to fire a tank? How many? And yet you act like because you build models you know everything? During WW 2 they did get a bit sooty. Especially with heavy use like on the Stugs which were a lower velocity gun and the propellant wasn't as powerful as a higher velocity round. Looking at the Jagdpanther pictures depicts a lighter discoloration. showing the difference. Modern armor will show even less with the improvemnt of propellants since the 1940's. The bottom line is, do what you want it's your model. Paint it pink with purple polka dots for all I care and probably 90 % of the rest of us.

It's not a subject without interest, however, I do wonder about the need to create yet another thread on the subject...
Three, actually. With the same people arguing.

photo 1 the bushes wiped the black off
photo 2 the muzzel's even made the wall behind black
photo 3 the black fell off when the tank tipped over
photo 4 the black ran down to the turret face
photo 5 the black is on the botttom
there's my 2 cents!

I have seen one photo of a tank with a blackened muzzle, it was very black for what looked like 1/3 of the barrel, and the tank was still active...
To be fair though.. it was a PZ II with the 20mm canno n..
