Model Master Sand is the perfect match for modern US vehicles painted for a desert environment (or so I've been told). However, M1A1s (OIF Marines and Army) and LAV-25s (OEF/OIF Marines) could be found in three tone NATO camo as well as overall sand. Hope this helps.

I used a technique that was described in the April/May 2004 edition of Tamiya Magazine on the Tamiya OIF M1A2 model. Mine were an Amtrac, M113 and a Pirana. I first primed in pale grey then mixed XF57 Buff with XF63 Dark Grey until I got a colour that looked nice to my eye.
I then sprayed a coat of pure XF57 Buff in a 50/50 thinners/paint mix which was sprayed mainly into the centre of the panels. I then used that mixture with a couple of drops of XF1 White and XF55 Deck Tan well thinned so as not to destroy the previous colours.
Once dry I used subtle [I think so anyway] oil paint washes and filters to get the effect that I wanted.
Hope this gives you some more ideas.
