I think my favorite part of this hobby is doing the research required to build a historically correct model. Sometimes that research can lead to frustration.
Now for my question. What color were the Tiger Is of Das Reich during Kursk? I have read that prior to Kursk, Das Reich painted their Tigers with either green or tan camouflage paint. I have also seen prints of these Tigers with green bases and tan or brown stripes, tan bases with green or brown stripes, and finally, tan bases with both green and brown stripes. Are any or all of these correct?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
Willie

Hi Craig... I've been trying to figure this out for a long time ....I have to say that I think most of their tigers were repainted dark yellow and green before the Kursk offensive . I'm still trying to figure out how to paint S13 ....

I would have to agree with The Bear. Dark yellow with Green overspray would be safe.

Thanks for the inputs. I have Bison decals on the way for S12 and I figured I would go with Dark yellow with green overspray, but it never hurts to get as many opinions as possible.

Hi, I'm working on a Kursk Tiger, from Das Reich..
Das Reich received its first tigers on december 1942. These tigers were panzergrey from the factory and participated to the Kharkov battles. They also had a winter white wash then. The functional Tigers took place in Kursk in the following summer. Their white camouflage were washed down and they received one (tan) or two (tan/green or tan/brown) color cammo scheme.
Das Reich received more Tigers after february 1943 which were dunkelgelb from the factory.. And they received their camo on the field over the dunkelgelb..
These are the informations I've found. But the Tiger modelling is not easy because this tank had many modifications applied at factories and in the field. The references can be deceptive..

For what it's worth,I have seen Kursk-Das Reich modeled many times in the dark yellow base with the green 'vine' pattern camo.I do not know if this was field or factory issue but it does,IMO make a spectacular presentation when done well.
cheers!
