I would use plastic card, cork, spackle, and bass wood. Draw out you wall on the plastic card. Cut out some cork bricks. Frame in your doors and windows, and then covere the whole thing with Spackle for the mortar. Once dry paint to your liking. Blockhaus does great work as does Cheyenne. Do a search in the forums for cork if you are curious.

You could even use foam board for the backing ($1.50) for a 2'x3' sheet. Use it for backing (see Gotcha Covered) for cork bricks.
It gives a solid structure and a nice large flat surface.

I could do Balsa Foam Hansa's too $$$ (alot of blocks)

I'm thinking Brick is easier than trying to do a "normal" steel type building..... The insulation would be fun to attempt...LOL

You can see the "puffy" insulation in the pics:

It's for a Factory Dio/ backdrop.... I'm coing to Scratch a Top Running Overhead Crane and all........

Hey Matt:

A scratchbuilt crane, . . . and all? Whoa Nellie,
this sounds like a really neat project. Hopefully,
you'll be able to post "under construction" pix
as Cheyanne and others do.

Good luck

How about using cork board to make your bricks..Definately would be a lot of repetative work..but cutting the brincks from the cork goes relatively fast. Just would be assemble then..

Wow its going to be big, i would have to agree with cork bricks, I think you would be spending a pretty penny to do it in Hansa, but then again I think the fastest easiet way would be the balsafoam. Tough call. Kevin

I could to the "Steel" walls (pics above) But how to get that "bellow" on the wall insulation? The Zee beams (girts) push against the insulation so "bellows" on the nside of the building (Go to a warehouse store and you'll see what I mean.

If you want the insulation bellowing effect you could try pressing the beams into epoxy putty. Let the putty bulge out a bit and as it dries texture it somehow. Not sure I explained that well????

Cheers,

OK...... 5,000 "cinder" blocks, 17,000 bricks or the "steel" method..... or maybe a hybrid version.......

Hansa versions...... between $50-100 for the wall...

The Steel version would be costly too as the beams would need to be scratched...

Narrowing down to:

Balsa Foam - Carve it....
Plaster - make a form & scribe it..........

Matt,

Go to Wal-Mart and buy the biggest cookie sheet with sides on it they have and use that as your "form" for your slabs of plaster. Once you sand off the sides of your slabs (where the radius is between the bottom of the cookie sheet and the side) you should end up with big slabs of plaster that are uniform thickness.

Then just carve away...
