A quick questions....

Anyone out there know if the IDF tanks will rust in a desert condition , given the weather there is dry and it's a desert climate there ? I have seen T-55 belonging to other middle east country having bad rust ....

Any clue anyone ?

Thanks...

I think you might have just answered your own question! othe tanks in Mid east countries rusting.. well it would depend on the material the tank is made of. If it's an older tank that doesn't have reactive/composite armours then yes they would rust I would think!

Are you refering to tanks still in service? Then the answer would be no because they would be better maintained than most other armies. If you can, try to get a copy of the Verlinden book Warmachines N 4, Isreali M4 Sherman and Derivatives. There are some very nice views of older, not well maintained tanks that show how the desert condition reacts on tanks left as is.

If the tank was burned out, then there will be rust, and, closer to the coast, where there is more moisture, the more rust you would get.

Is there some one with good color shots of the destroyed tanks in the Sinai?

randall's right, maintenance is the key.. there will be some rust, and I have seen rust on the tanks in the museums, which I took your comment to be referring to, but yes, randall's right... T-55's looked rusty because of one thing, they were amateur crews using them!
