I have an idea of doing a mail call dio using a US 2.5 6by6 cargo truck and custom dioramacs mail call figures cds4006 and 4008. I would like to have some damaged buildings what would be a good setting for this dio. There will a soldier in the back of the truck handing mail to another soldier on the ground and three soldiers setting on crates reading there mail. What accessories would be in the back of the truck. Also I thought of using a fire barrel with a LED light for fire would this fit in the picture any ideas or comments let me have them I think it has potential.

PFC,

This sounds like a great diorama idea. The 'ordinariness' of it all allows it to be modelled in any time, any place, any nationality.

Carry on!

Just watch as much MASH as I do :-) There are plenty of scenes from there with the supply truck and everyone huddled around the burning barrels. #:-)

The "mail truck" was/is usually a mutlipurpose delivery truck, not just specifically a mail delivery truck... so along with several sacks of mail (made of miliput!), you could have crates of tools, food, fuel, ammo, etc. stacked inside the back.

Here's an effort saving idea - you can build up supplies in the back near the cab and cover it with a tarp. Fills it up, but leaves it up to the viewer as to what may be under the tarp. If its cold, it may be rainy or snowy and you wouldn't want the gear/supplies to get wet.

Another tip. Don't put food and fuel on the same truck. Food and fuel don't mix well, we never put them close enough to contaminate the food. Soldiers would be pretty pissed that they didn't get fed hot chow because the Supply SGT spilled fuel on it. Great dio idea though. I really like the relaxed theme. Title could be "A Little Bit of Home".

Dios like that leave a lot of possibilities to work on details: the stuff to fill the truck with. Traces that show what the soldiers were doing at the moment the truck arrived, places they sit on/in, stuff in the front of the truck. Ripped envelopes on the ground, etc...
Is this a WWII, Vietnam or modern US dio ???

i have photos my grandpa gave me that he took while he was fighting in western europe ww2, there is one of him and his mates getting parsels from a truck, just like u say, and it was near the corner of a half ruined building, near that was a sand bag bunker with a vickers mg manned by two guys, and the men crowded around the truck, it would look good as a dio, hope that might give u an idea mate, cheers
