It was the Kithobbyist.com contest. Every time you posted to their forum or sent an e-mail from their account it increased your chances to win. They had a monthly drawing of the folks who posted/e-mailed there throughout the month. They gave away kits like the Tamiya Leo 2A5, Accurate Miniatures P-51, DML Ferdinand, Academy Achilles.
Some months it was one kit (like the armor), others it was several kits (like the P-51). The grand prize was the 1/16 Tamiya Tiger.
I first started visiting that board in March after someone I knew won a kit and confirmed it was for real. I started posting and won the Leo 2A5, then the P-51 and traded someone a Revell Hunter kit for the Ferdinand that she won but wasn't interested in. Never thought I would win the big one. I guess I won the kit with my big mouth, or busy fingers!
I found this site when you posted on kithobbyist.

Ah yes, that was so long ago now. Speaking of contests let me bounce this off you guys. Do you think anyone would want a Shep Paine book autographed by him as part of their collection? I am trying to think of an article submission contest that would get people hot to submit. I would maybe have 5-10 books for the finalists. Not sure how I would award them though. Maybe just a drawing and each submission gets you one chance to get one.
What'dya think?
Jim
PS: Rob - Your gonna be an officer by weeks end at the rate your going. Don't ask how long til Major though. ha

yes, yes, yes..shep paine is one of my heroes and

I believe they took the number of times you posted or e-mailed in a particular month and put it in a hat and picked a name or names. More posts, more of your names go into the hat. I don't think the Tiger grand prize will be repeated, but they may continue the monthly winnings. I don't know.
Thanks for the online build link.
I'd like a Shep Paine book, unless I already had it. Signature would be neat too.

One of my other hobbies, if you can call it a hobby, is collecting interesting books signed by the author. Shep Paine is a big name. Would love to have one!!

'bout time, I've been an officer for almost half my life (May 1986), counting my National Guard time while I was in college, I've been wearing green for over 18 yrs!

Greetings again Major Rob. I'm interested in that web site you won the tiger 1 on. Could you give all interested the link address please. Doesn't hurt to try it out right? Look at the HOG you just won. Thanks. Chris (Tiger 1) Carney.

Congrats, thats a heck of a prize. I went to my local shop today and saw the kit first hand. I think I may try and auction one of my kidneys on ebay so I can get one.
