Well I finally got the decals on the turret and flat coated them ...masked them and got all the parts ready for the final coats of the base color ...I sprayed my Tiger using Gunze Acrylics I mixed feild grey and a dark green to start with ....

you can see I thin my paint quite a bit ..it helps make the preshade color show through...

After completely covering my kit with the green I lightened it with some tamiya buff added to the green mix...yes Gunze and Tamiya paints work great together....and went over the model highlighting parts and panels....

And finally after I finished I removed the masks from the numbers et voila ...no everything is drying and waiting for final assembly and the weathering to begin...

Next pictures will be of the fully assembled kit ...when ever I get to it ..

all comments and questions are welcome

Rick your cat is looking very good. I think the "green" color is great. I am starting to understand how thin you really make your paint mix. I can understand how you are getting the preshade effects to come through so well. I will definitely give this a shot with my tiger. Thanks for sharing. Cheers Kevin

Hi Kevin ..when I say I thin my paint I mean it ...I was down in my room when I noticed the left over paint from last night ...I think this will show you what I mean..

Richard,

I am really looking forward to the completed model. I have been practising with my new airbrush and have found that well thinned paint can produce really great depth as the layers are built up.

However, I do find that I can get the mix just too thin and end up dabbing it off and starting again.

What would you suggest to produce consistent thinned mixes please.

Perhaps you may write a feature on the methods that you use.

Thanks

Mark

Very nice, I like your paint mixture. I've used Gunze paints before and also think they work well!

Hi Mark there a few dissadvantages of working with very thin paint and one is you have yo be careful of the pressure and also you have to work very slowly ..It took me 5 hours to paint this tank ...the paint is laid down almost no wider than a pencil lead ..I make a square and slowly fill it in ..this helps creat the different tones on the model it all depends on the number of passes over a certain area ... I usually work with the paint diluted about 30% paint to 70% thinner but this is usually done by eye and no real measuring .The other dissadvantage is the finished paint is very fragile and doesn't stand up to much wear ..... I love working with the Gunze paint and use them whenever I can .....

Looks super bear. If it was me I would add a little more buff and hit the horizontal panels to show sun fade and dust accumulation. Why did you put the decals on before the paint?

Hi John ..thanks for the comments ...I was going to add more buff to the paint mix but at the same time I was afraid that the green effect would be lost ...I think I'll use pigments to dust it up and I hope it'll give me the effect you mentioned ....As for why the decals before the paint....well I have noticed that the inside of the numbers seems to be a different color on some of these Tigers ,so I used Osprey's New Vanguard on the Tiger I as my reference for leaving the interior of the numbers in Panzer Gray...
