Add the well or not. I was making this well for another project, but feature creap bit me while working on this pinkie diorama. Of course I'll paint it and drill out the center and flatten the botton.

What you think - Is the well a 'keeper'?

I like the well as well, but looks out of place. I think a large desert bush would look much better there.

ps. that truck is PINK :-) but I liiiike it

If you are looking for a little something to fill in the side view, instead of a well, consider a small street fountain near to the side wall.... modeling trickling water is also fun and adds contrast to the hot desert local. Often fountains like this were a community gathering area for women in the town to gather water, wash off dust, and to generally gossip... you might even add a curious woman or two looking around the corner to see what all the fuss is about!

Am I mistaken, or is that building made of Balsa Foam material?

Its coming along very well Scott. The Arabs fit in well. I see the fruit stand is up as well. Nice effect of knocking off the corner. Is it stuck on yet? Sorry its really a small point but if its not stuck on, you could add more dynamic effect by having the broken end face in slightly towards the house to simulate that its been knocked and pushed around slightly. You can ignore it as its just me. I sometimes drive myself nuts with these minor details.

I'm afraid I'm with the guys on the well. I don't think it would be wrong to have a well near the front of the house but from the few pics I've seen there is usually a communal well where water is drawn A well in that location may tend to force the viewer to focus a wee bit longer at that corner away from the action. Most of us have a fascination with water, well I do anyway.

From some strange reason the old blockhead is not overly imaginative right now. Will try to post again once I think of something to replace the well in case you decide to dump it.

Well (pun intended);) I asked for you opinion and am happy I got it. No big deal on the well - it was an afterthought and now it's a gonner. Thank you.

Keith - the building does look like balsa foam - it's actually VP's Desert City Mud Brick house in resin.
The Arabs are VP also - kit 2070.

The stand is not in place yet - My plan is to have tie down lines from the top of the outter poles. The driver will have clipped the line vs. the pole itself. A bit of a shift is in order.

Thanks guys

Scott gotta agree with the others, but I like the idea of one of those well spigots in the wall type of things if you want, that would look good.
Most desert built up areas were only there because there was water there, so some type of water source would almost be a state law type of thing, if there are bldgs. there, there has got to be water somewhere there also.
Wow, am I redundant or what, am I redundant or what ?

The well in that location looked like an after thought. Now those weird red stands those guys are on really do look out of place. On the other side of the hut there is a what looks to be an open spot. Try the well over there and see how it looks. I don't think it would look so crowded over there.

Scott:

I go along with Plimp one ten. I think you can still use
the well. I like it but like the others, placed where it
now is, in the pictures, it takes the eye away from what
is happening. As I look at the two figs and the pretty
pink vehicle — as I try to forget the red stands — I see
a sight line for the viewers attention going from the
Arab in the doorway along the next Arab and moving
toward the vehicle. To me you could experiment with
a placement of the well over on that side just on
beyond the 2nd Arab figure, the one closer to the
vehicle and play with placing it over on that side just
a smidge back away from the vehicle. There, in my
thinking, it would help to continue the sight line for the
viewer and not take their eye away from what is
happening. Of course, this is a guess since I can't
actually move the pieces around and look at them as
you can. But from your posts and pix in the past I know
you've got an artist's eye and a good sense of
composition. I really like the whole scene because
it is different, not what we usually see. No Germans
. . . . yet. :-) :-)

Scott, I like the idea of a well, but this one doesnt fit the local I think, I would try to make one that more closely matches the stone or brick shapes from the buildings, I would also make it a square or rectangular shape unless you go with a fountain as Keith suggests, that would be cool too. Hope it helps. Cheers Kevin

Hello Scott , very good corner !! and very original scene :-)
I also think that this well is in wrong place, too close to building. I would suggest you make a low wall ( no more higth that figure base cilinders) with te same texture that corner´s bricks, this give a continuity idea ( more buildings off scene) and define also the road

hope that this helps
Carlos
