Ok,
I am newb to airbrushing, and have only airbrushed 3 1/35 armor models. I have a badger 350 (bottom feeder) and an Iwata Revolution CR. I am going to be painting a 3ft long Uboat...
The armor, i used quite thin paint and had no issues once I started using the Iwata, though due to the small size of the model, the small spray pattern of the AB wasn't a concern.
Now to painting something large... i forsee myself spending all day tryin to paint the lower hull on the uboat with a spray pattern only 1cm wide. I know the badger has a wider pattern but i ran into issues with a rough finish on the models when I used it (paint not thin enough?)
I really want the finish to turn out well, and I am considering preshading as well.
Anyone able to make some suggestions? oops I should add I will be using Tamiya Acrylic Paint.
Thanks
Martyn

My guess is the pait wasn't thin enough or the Pressure a touch to high. IMHO I have had some "coarse" Tamiya paints in the past as well.
Try thinning it down a bit more and spraying some scrap plastic first.

I'd try thinning it down too. I personally dont like Tamiya paints, but even with my Model Master paints I dont thin it enough and this can greatly effect the spray pattern. Try spraying some thinner through the gun to clean it out

Drop back and punt, I mean, spray a larger patter. Do you have a larger nozzle? That would be a good choice.
Not MUSTsaying anything NOT about the paint brand DISS from the famous model TAMIYAmanufacturer.
Given the color of a sub, pre-shading seems an exercise in futility if you're aiming for an accurate color.

Your paint may be drying before it hits the model. Either spray closer, which narrows your pattern, or add thinner. For something that large I'd consider a spray can. There's no shame in it, if you can find the right color. Plus, I"ve had had better results sanding enamels than acrylics, if it comes to that.

:-)
Heh the brand of paint makes no difference I had rough finish issues with multiple brands of paint. I'm learning though.
I don't have a larger nozzle, I think there may only be one size available for the revolution CR.

I use the Iwata as well. I have never had any of the same issues, but I have only used it on 1/35 armor.
