Just thought i would share some work in progress shots of Tamiya's Churchill MkVII
I decided for a little fun to scratchbuild an interior so here it is , its just been given a quick basecoat of white prior to a dull silver final coat.
Its not meant to be an exact 100% replica of the interior more a representation bearing in mind once the hull is in place a lot will dissapear from view hence I did little to modify the ball mount on the Besa maching gun as only the stock is visible and a lot of the rough edges and wiring that appears to go no where is hidden with the top hull in place.
The turret floor is also to be removed to be modified, the floor and the fittings are only in place a fitting guide for the rear firewall.
Any comments , constructive criticism welcome
Ian

very nice work Ian...Are you sure about the dull silver for this time period ...I do know that early war and post war vehicles had the dull silver but I thought (do not have my reference books with me but) there was a period during the war that the interiors were painted white..... Your scratch built interior looks great ...keep up the amazing work sir ...congrats...

Thats looking great so far - it puts my Churchill to shame!
Dont know where you are in the UK, but there is a great churchill in the Coberton (I think i've spelt it incorrectly), its near exmoor in Devon.
You can get right up close to it and look through the viewports + i'm sure if you ask them they'll let you get even closer. The muesum is quite smalll but its got some good stuff there thats worth a look if you down that way + its not that far from Bovington

Fantastic. That interrior looks as good as any that are supposed to be "100% replica."
keep up the great work.

I think that silver was used on tank interiors in the later stage of WW2

You know you did a good job when viewers cant tell the parts that were scratched built between the ones that werent. I think i might have to start hunting around for styrene sheets around here as these scratchings are looking like fun.

Thanks Guys
Still undecdided on the turret Andy , ive got 5 crewmen 2 of which would fit in the turret hatches and therefore no need for a turret interior however the other 3 are in poses sitting on the hull hence the interior , ive got and idea for a small diorama of them at rest having a brew and a cigarette
Thanks Jeremy the original kit interior is completely empty so everything in there I added , it was a lot of fun , ok my finshed result is not nearly as good as an aftermarket plastic/resin/pe kit but I really enjoyed building it and my view is that most Tamiya kits are pretty much shake and bake so by adding some scratchbuilt items it prolongs the fun of the build.
All you need is some styrene sheet ,lead foil, copper wire and a few bits and pieces from the spare box. And to think all i intended originally was to add to wire hatch handles things just kinda got out of control hehehehe

This looks REALLY good ian!
I just scratched an interior for a MK III conversion, so I appreciate the work. Its interesting to see the different approach to a similar project, and to see jus thow different the MK VII interior is. It seems that some of the more annoying parts weren't relevant to the VII. How may hatches will you hhave open? ON mine I only have 1 and a half, and only just realised how much work will actually be visible. I can't help on the colour. Good job!

Maybe because I didnt have the skill to model them :-) :-) :-)
I intent to have the driver and co-drivers top hatches open and the drivers side escape hatch open as well
