Hey all
Have a query re the 'mounting plate' (?) for the bogey housing where attaching to the hull. Want to model an M4 with one housing removed, but am unsure as to what you'd see remaining... Figure on there being a plate with surrounding bolts (as per what's you'd see in most kits) but would there be holes in the plate, and if so how many? A pic would be great, as the one I have shows the thrown track coiled in such a way as to block the part I need to view...
Cheer for the help
Brad

Half an answer....

One of the Squadron Walkaround books (think it might be the Tank Destroyers one) has a photograph of the rear of an M4 bogie removed from the hull.

Bradley, if I understand you correctly, you want to depict the portion of the bogie truck with the return roller mount missing. Right? It's my understanding that the mounting holes would be visible; but not much else. I say this because the M4's bogie trucks were fitted with mounting holes on both sides and often, one can see the holes on the forward side, though they were supposed to be concealed with plugs that covered the holes. I hope I've been clear enough for you. If not, please let me know. Best regards, Dave

Bradley, I'm sorry; but I just re-read you post and now understand what you were asking. I hope I haven't confused the issue and that you'll forgive my haste in answering your question. As to the original question, that "Walk around" book should have shots of what you need to see. Sorry for any confusion. Dave

The "plate" is part of the bogey mount. The hull would basically just have bolt holes in it when the bogey truck is removed. This page's photos migh help you see what I mean: http://www.amps-armor.org/ampssite/photos/showPhotos.aspx?ID=23&Start=81&Finish=100

BTW, those pics are from the WWII museum near Youngstown, OH, where the AMPS Nationals are this year.

Hey guys thanks for the info...
Bob, it seems from the pic that I would have to show the two strips of bolt holes in the hull? What about the small recess at the bottom of the DML kits' hull for example, where the underside of the 'plate' would sit? How would that be compared to the real thing?
And thanks for your help Dave, but I don't have the Tank Destroyer Walkaround book...
cheers
Brad

Right, Brad. The holes are in two vertical rows -- look at a Tamiya hull or even the DML parts for their placement. Note that the bottom two holes are in slightly from the others.

The "plate" on the bottom is also part of the Bogey truck.

I found some more pics on the "Ferra Mole" site:

This page is on the M7 Priest, but the hardware is identical on a Sherman. http://www.ferreamole.it/images/priest_man/m7_priest_02.htm

I'm guessing this info is for your mine-damaged vehicle project. Good luck and enjoy!
