I need some help and know I can rely on the experts here as allways

Im building a Churchill MkVII with a scratchbuilt interior , from the limited references I have I am i right in thinking that late war Churchill interiors were painted a flat/dull silver colour.

Thanks in advance for any help

Hi Ian,
I got this from a google search, they show it as a silver colour but I'll leave it up to others to tell you exact colours but hope it helps. I have a couple to build myself so I hope you get them and may share photos and any references you get.
Cheers & good luck,
Kenny.

Hi Ian,

From second hand information, it seems that the British interior switched from silver to a 'lead free' gloss white as early as 1940. These changes first occurred in Matildas and Crusaders. Hatches and engine covers would be the same as the external colour. This info apparently comes from the production contract notes.

Thanks Frank

I had allready primed it flat white , so i may just give it a coat of satin to give it a semi gloss finish rather than the full "shiny" effect :-)

Later Centurions were still using the silver, so perhaps that was not a permanent change.

The silver paint was a special mix paint that turned to powder when hit with extreme force rather then flaking as the flakes could easily wound the crew when flying around at great velousity.

It changed to semi gloss white during WW2 because supply could not keep up with demand once tank production increased. It then returned to the silver 'powder' paint post WW2.

Hope this helps as well.

Cheers
