How does one go about becoming a moderator ??? What must one do ??

Well, I became one when I was asked by two of the other moderators in the figure forum. I had had lots of dealings with then in the past and we had become friends thru the site.
I'd suggest that you try contacting the current moderators of the forum(s) you're interested in moderating and volunteering to them.
As a guess, I'd say that your past participation (both quality and quantity) as well as your overall conduct would have some bearing on your approval. But please don't hold me to that. I really don't know for sure what the qualifications are for the position.
I believe that staff Jim has the final approval on the decision.
