Hi guys, I have a couple more questions if you can bare with me.
I'm in the process of doing a mottled camo scheme on an Italian WWII fighter. The base coat is Tamiya acrylic and is already applied. What I want to do next is apply the "mottle" effect but with enamel paint.
Question: Is there any need to spray a flat or protective coat over the base acrylic before applying the enamel or can I safely spray on the enamel without worrying about an effects?
I know you're thinking "why don't you just use acrylics for the mottle color as well." Answer, I have the perfect and accurate color already in enamel and also......so far with my ABing skills, I'm better with enamels. I have'nt had much luck with acrylics when it comes to very fine detail work.

Second question: While at my LHS I picked up a couple of bottles of Polyscale acrylic clear coats. One is flat and the other is satin. Till now I've been using Testors flat out of the spray can. I've never used a satin coat but would like to try one. If I spray my plane with a final coat of satin and decide it's too shiny....can I just go over it again with a coat of flat?
Any help or tips is not only appreciated but also applied.

Thanks,
Hermon

You can use different kinds of paint/clear coats over each other without problem, so long as you let the coat underneath cure properly first. In some cases you may well be able to go immediately from spraying one to the other, but the safe bet is let the paint underneath cure properly first. Acrylics cure fast, you maybe able to go ahead with enamels later the same day, though to be safe wait 24 hrs. Going the other way... lets say Acrylics over top of enamels you may want to wait at least 24 hrs if not 48.

As far as the satin coat goes, the same rules apply.

Thanks for the advice Skurj.
This is going to be a tricky camo scheme and I didn't want to mess it up.

Thanks,
Hermon
