Hey there
Has anyone had dealing with
a) S&T products
b) Colorado miniatures
Dearly want the tanker figure ST35003... Heard that S&T can be difficult to obtain, but know that Colorado miniatures stock them...
What do you think, and has anyone got this figure?
Cheers
Brad

I've ordered figures to the UK through Colorado. No probs whatsoever. They have a good reputation, and when I expect they want to keep. I think you can safely order through them.
And S£T products are very nice indeed

If I'm not mistaken, that figure was sculpted by the one and only John Rosengrant. My personal super hero to modeling. I got to meet him this last year at World Expo and attended his lecture.

It was basically a slide show along with a question/answer ordeal about all the movies he's worked in. There was a lot of focus on Jurrassic Park because it was just so interesting how they got those big dino's to work for the movies. How they were designed, materials used etc., the problems they faced getting them wet, the power it took to operate them etc. All fascinating. John is so down to earth too. The entire weekend at World Expo was absolutely one of the most memorable, enjoyable weekends of my life.
In the evenings we all would gather in the hospitality suites drinking Grey Goose Vodka and 50 year old Scotch... all free. Nobody put on any aires, Aj Lafleche and I stood there socializing with some of the greatest figure artists in the world.

Me too! A thoroughly nice guy, too! Both he and Trevor Hensley (sculptor of the 120mm S&T US Paras) were top guys, and I'm so envious of their day jobs!
Easyoff - we met outside the hotel - think you were ready to leave and you spoke for ages with my friend Einion.
oh, he's a picture I took of John's awesome diorama:

Rob, it was sure nice meeting you and Einion. It seemed like I was standing there for ages too! If you recall I was waiting for my buddy who was chatting with the fella that had all the fabric swatches.
When I got home that day I was so physically burned out I could barely get out of the car. My wife had to help me walk to the house. All the time she was shaking her head saying "you did it to yourself again, you stupid [auto-censored]," knowing that I was going to suffer for the next week or so trying to recover.
But it was worth every second!

It was a one off alright! Well worth the trip over from the UK! The next Expo is little closer to home for me......I'll be learning some Spanish between now and then!
And I have some of those fabric swatches here now! :-)

My wife put the cuffs on me and won't let me go to the next one. She's a little to worried that I'll end up requiring a doctor or worse, hospitalization.

Rob- Think I have seen that dio recently (is it the Sherman in front of a building with a large tree and some GIs?) and thought to ones self that it was the most accurate in my eyes for conveying a sense of 'grittiness' in depicting battle weary Allies...
Just purchased the above tanker last night... Already have grandiose plans...
Thanks again for the help lads
Cheers

Well, it's not bad - but I see he's used wire mesh to a scale of 3.5" grade, which was not available to US forces until October 1947. They only had 3" in WW2. A pity as it detracts from what would otherwise be a good dio...

Well, the next step is discussing the accuracy of the paint match for Olive Drab...
But life's too short, and time that could be spent building models too pecious, for all that I reckon!
Hope I didn't offend (note the smiley): I was just trying to poke fun at the rivet counting mentality which I find tiresome in the face of great work like the dio we're discussing. How on earth can people get so much detail into 1/35 faces? Talent and dedication I suppose

Well, I didn't think anyone would actually believe a claim that someone could tell the difference between a 3" and a 3.5" mesh at 1/35...
I guess it shows how seriously some people take "accuracy". It's one way to build models of course, but certainly not the only way, and of no greater merit than less precise, but more artistic styles...
Sean
