Just picked up the Dragon Jagdpanzer IV "Johann Huber" at the LHS. Seemed like a nice kit but I was dissapointed at the lack of "goodies" Dragon kits are famous for. Just wanted to know if there were any pitfalls in building this kit that I should watch out for?

Hi,
I have this also and was looking for extras there. Well, not much and what there is, is incorrect? I mean PE shürzen are partially incorrect as can be seen when compared to this:
Or if there was two kind shürzen, I would like to know about that.
When it comes to kit itself, it is nice. Tracks are lot of work but not much compared to "Magic Tracks" when it comes to glueing.
Tools and holders could benefit from PE but not necessarily.
Fit is quite nice when glued with a thought. I've built early version which shares most of the parts with this one.
HTH,
Niko A.

Hi, Picked this kit up a few weeks or so ago and at the same time I also picked up Tristar's operational suspension kit as well. This will make a nice addition. Also, whenever I get the time to start on it, I will get a set of Fruilmodel tracks to add to it once it's pretty well done.
Since I'm not that good at working with PE, an age thing, I tend to forget most of the "additions in detail" that can be put on the kits now-a-days and just try to do a good job on the painting and finishing. For me that's hard enough.
Take care, Larry

I built this kit a couple of months ago, and it went together pretty good. I think Vinnie did a review of the kit, you can try a search for it. The only problem I had was with the shurzen (sp?) brackets, a couple of them were a little out of alignment. I'm not sure if it was the kit, or something I did wrong. Also, the painting guide had some mistakes on it. A camo blotch would be yellow on one profile, and red/brown on an other. It also didn't show the shurzen in the paint guide. All in all, I would say it's a good kit though. Here is how mine turned out.

Brian, would Huber's Jagd been fighting in Russian in 1945 in the summer, like your diorama says and depicts? The Germans were fighting on their own territory by then and it wasnt even summer when the war ended. Unless I'm missing something because I can be dense at times. :-)

I just picked up Dragon's Panver IV A-O prototype. The shuzen looks just like the photo above.

Tapper,
My dio doesn't say anything about summer. It says " Russia 1945". I was just going off of what the box describs, that's why I didn't list a date. I was going for the early spring look, just when things start turning green. If that still doesn't fit, then I will make up a new title, and go for late summer 1944.

I know what you are trying to say but there were no Germans in Russia(other than POWs) in 1945. By 1944 the Soviets had pushed the Germans back to Poland.

Thanks guys! I'm really torn over the shurzen. It doesn't look quite right and the way they have it set up for the hangers looks confusing. I was also shocked to see no painting recs for the shurzen.
PARKS... Where did you get the idea for your paint on the shurzen?
Thanks!

Hi Mike,
you mean like in kit? As the wartime photo shows, shürzens differ from kit:
first station plates are taller and rest are same height. Last station plates are only placed a bit higher.
I know this isn't a big deal and kit looks just great with it's PE sets. And still it may be correct I have only seen few pics with above like configuration. There may be two or more like configs, perhaps.

Hi hellbent11,
Like I mentioned, you are going to have to be careful with the shurzen, it would be easier to install the hangers on the tank first, then do the hangers on the sturzen itself. If I remember correctly, the directions call for the process the other way around, but the brackets on the sturzen don't line up right.
As far as the paint goes, since the paint guide didn't show anything for the skirts, I just decided to try something different.
Hope this helps, Brian

That's cool! I really think that it is different and very eye catching. Good job on the model!

I think that the photo below shows Shuerzen of the same type as those in the kit (it is L48 gun version, but Shuerzen were probably used on L70 as well):

Hi Pawel,
thanks for pic. Tank in pic is A-0 so shürzen is correct at least for it.
