I have seen a photo of a Flakvierling mounted on an M3A3 or M5 chassis in eastern European livery and Zaloga replicates this in his Osprey book. Does anyone know if the quad fifty turret was similarly fitted to this family of tanks. I may have seen a model of one, and, of course, one is free to speculate, but I'm wondering if this was ever done.

The Yugoslavians used the Flakvierling 38 on the M3A3 Stuart. A single M3 Stuart was tested with the quad 50 turret in the U.S. but never placed into production.

Thanks, Chris. I knew someone here would have the answer.

Al,
many ,many years ago,the magazine, fine scale modeler, had a feature article,on converting a M3 stuart, into the quad .50 prototype. It involed taking two Tamiya models, their M3 stuart and the pedstal mounted quad .50 from their M16 halftrack (the article mentions that this was how it was orignally done)ive got the issue, set aside, its my plans to build this in the near future, ive got the M3,the pedstal mount, the individual track links, just need to pickup verlindens .50 machine guns(i dont what to use Tamiya's .50's.)after testing, the military chose to go with the quad .50's,mounted on the halftrack.

The article that was published in FSM is now in one of Kalmbachs books named Armor Conversion and Detailing Projects. It gives a good technique for combining the M5 and the quad 50 cal turret. In the book it looks like an interesting build. I think it would look good on anyones modeling shelf. If you decide to build one keep us posted with some photos. I would love to see it actually built since I am a big Stuart fan.
Cheers,
