The weapons, helmets, and gear are pretty good though.

The M-16's in the Tamiya "Modern" Infantry set are Vietnam Era..I agree, it is not a very good set.

They are M16A1s, which were used up through the mid-late '80s, when the M16A2 was issued. Some units (mainly NG) still had M16A1s in ODS. The M60MG was used till the mid-late '90s, replaced by the M240B MG.

Must have lost track of this post.
Thanks for the info Gino.

Considering the quality of them I may pass on them and check out dragons.

I agree with Gino, the M16A1 was still in use with some active duty units during Desert Storm and after as well.

I stand corrected.

When I was in basic back in '90, we used the M16A1.
Talk about old. As for the M60's, I've got pics of SF guys having them mounted on top of HUMVEES in OIF.
Guess there is still life in them after all.

Up until Aug of 2000, 2ACR was still using the old M60MG. We had started getting the 240's about a week before I left.

We were the red headed step children of the XVIII Airborne Corps and as a result we got the old worn out hand me downs from the 82nd or as usual we'd be the last ones to get the new gee whiz stuff.

Oh how the mighty have fallen. Back in the day, the 2nd ACR was the real deal getting all the good stuff.

Yeah, back when the Regiment was at Polk, Warrior Brigade (CSS, MP's, MEDDAC, Engineers, etc) were getting newer stuff before we did.

Oh another thing we got before I left were 7 PVS-14's for the CO, XO, 1SG, and the PL's and we also got the reflex sights but we were not allowed to use them.
