Hello
Managed to spend a couple of days at Bovington Tank Museum here in the UK. Taken a few photos, mostly German Kit and mostly detail closeups in case I ever fancy detailing stuff. On the off chance others may find them of interest i'm enclosing a link to them here, by gently they're hosted on my DSL link
Let me know what you think.
Cheers
Ian

Thanks for the link Ian, those Hunting Tiger pics is just what I needed, Ive always wanted to paint my tank in that two tone camo pattern but I was never sure if it was authentic. Was there any indication in the museum that those are the original color of the tanks in there, or were they all re-painted?

Some nice pics Ian, thanks for sharing them!
muttley, I hate to tell you but the majority (if not all) are repaints, the Jagdtiger for sure is. They may have been found in a two tone camo scheme, but not those two.

I'm glad some people are finding them useful.
With regards to the paint schemes, as Kelley says be VERY careful of any modem paint schemes, including the Bovington Stuff. A lot of it is repainted (queue the discussions on modern interpetations of RAL....). Some of them are openly painted in different tanks schemes (the KV-1 was delivered by the Russians in Green). Others are i think just repainted by the museum to better fit a scene. On one pic i took of the Panzer II you can see older markings on the turret side that have been painted over, whether this was done by the museum or not its hard to tell. Not that im knocking them mind, their Panzer III is a superb example of a restoration and I hope they do many more, but just treat the colours in the pics, as with most sources, with care.
Just my 2 pence worth

Ian,
Many thanks for posting these pictures, people who do this provide a real service for those of us seeking accuracy in our models. Some observations on these photos:-
1) It looks to me that most of those paint schemes could be taken with a pinch of salt, especially the Jagdpanther. I can't believe that these schemes follow the original paint - if they do it just shows we shouldn't be too dogmatic about colours, especially on 3 colour scheme vehicles!
2) There's the answer to those who doubt that tracks rust - and these are coddled vehicles that spend nearly all their time indoors. Get the rust on the sprocket rollers and track link teeth of that Hanomag!
3) Once again, Vinnie is dead on the money with his weathering. All these vehicle exhibit paint chips & they all look black against the paint. So even museum vehicle get a bit knocked about.
These are all things we tend to forget if we tie ourselves to secondary research sources. There is no substitute for looking at the real thing.

Sorry Fabio, no all the pics I took are up. Time and lack of camera battery prevented me from taking more Pics. Ideally, I would have taken some more including their T34, the Couple of bits of Italien armour and some of the modern stuff. Hopefully another trip in a few months may get some of the loose ends.

Great pictures!!!
I'm currently building a Trumpeter KV 1 Heavy Cast Turret and am looking for some pictures of it and the pictures you gave really help a lot. And i'm looking for some interesting German AFV to build and a couple of your pictures gave me some idea on what i'm going to build next. Thanks for sharing.

Great Pics especially the interior shots. On the Tiger, I believe that is a restore job and the colors are very close to original. At least according to the Bovington Web sight.
