I've just bought the M3 scout car kit from Zvezda on eBay, and I (hope I) have the choice between the version with canvas cover, or the one without...

So far I have chosen the one with canvas, hoping it is the same than the other one with a canvas on top, and that I could then choose...

Does anybody have any experience of any of the kits, or possibly both and could make a recommendation?

Hi Ropi,

All I can say is that they are sold in two different boxes, one with a canvas cover and one without. Whether you get both options in each I really don't know.

I'll be ordering the canvas version on Monday. I have the old Italeri kit which is as far as I am aware exactly the same as the non canvas version. I've just finished removing the back seating as it didn't seem very practical for a fighting vehicle and given it a re-paint and re-fit for another project.

I think it's a really neat little kit, but I have always thought Italeria made good wheeled vehicles.

Delivery's usually in about 3 days so I'll let you know what's in the box if mine arrives first.

The M3 White Scout car has been around for a while. It originally was made by Peerless (who made some great kits: Dodge Ambulance, Dragon Wagon, Dodge AT Gun truck, Dodge weapons carrier, Dodge Command car, Quad Cafgo truck, Bedford CWT, 105mm Howitzer, RSO Tractor -- some others too I believe). Quite a nice list.

Most were re-issued by Italeri (and then Testors corp). Zvesda now has the M3 White scout car.

Ropi

Be prepared to remove a lot of molding flash and fill in a lot of ejector pin markings on the inside The fit of the parts is good

Also, you probably want to replace the machine guns and the jerry cans

Like Roy said it's the old Peerless/Max kit. The canvas top was part of the original issue, so I guess they found the molds, or all the other issues it was deemed unwanted/unnecessary . All in all not a bad kit for one that's 30 years old, and was state of the art when it came out. The re-issue I have- Zvezda- the molds have held up rather well, and very little flash is present on my example. (Maybe I got lucky, I don't know).

Thanks!

So for those who have been building the canvas version... is there an option to leave the canvas off, and then the kit is like the other version? Or is thre a lot of parts missing for the interior?
