Gday Modellers,
I wonder if anyone out there has come across a Diamond T crane truck used in the pacific theatre by Australians and Americans for airfield construction. If someone has spotted one in 1/35 scale or 1/48 i would love to know where i can get one.
I have a newspaper picture from the era if required.
i would appreciate any help.
many thanks

The only Diamond T 'crane truck' I know of is the Diamond T wrecker with twin Holmes booms. This was used not only on airfields but by army workshops all over the place.
As Casper said please post a photo so we know what you are talking about for sure.
This is a Diamond T wrecker in Australian Service.
Cheers
Cliff

Yes, I'd be interested in the picture.
I am familiar with Diamond-T wreckers, but not cranes (and I hope we're not into one of these hood-bonnet, wrench-spanner communication mismatches here).
I've got the Roy Models Diamond-T Wrecker - have no idea if that is still available, or how it stacks up against the A.A. version ...

Casper/Mr Roo and J RAtz
Thanks for taking the time to reply.
I visited the AA and ASAM sites but no match. AA didnt have a match and i could not view the DT range on ASAM ,however the Coles crane setup on the Austin K6 and Matador is similar.
As luck would have it i cant locate the news article but will post it as soon as i can find it.
If it helps, my Grandfather drove one with 5 airfield construction in PNG. It was definately a DT and not a wrecker as the photo you kindly supplied. AS above it resembles a coles crane set up.
many thanks
Stuart.

Stuart I am picking that it is/was a 'Quickway' crane mounted on a Diamond T chassis and if so there is no kit, either plastic or resin, of it.
I have a lot of 'part' photos (shows the boom and a bit of the crane and back of the truck) but no full photos of it. These were gathered from the AWM site over a period of years by me. I have yet to find a decent full photo of one though.
this is a GMC-CCKW fitted with a Quickway crane.
Cheers

Gday
Many thanks for the pictures Cliff. I have not been able to find the photo of the Diamond T truck as yet, still looking. I am quite sure it was not a cabin crane like the picture suggests.

Intriguing ...
I have found this picture of a Coles Crane
And at this link:
http://milifax2003.tripod.com/bridging_markings_part_4.html I found a list of Canadian Army vehicle bridge classifications which contained:
"Lorry, 4-ton, 6-wh, Crane, Mark VI—( Coles Crane), Diamond T 970 4-ton, 6x6, 201 wb) Class 9"
but no picture.
So I went diving on Maple Leaf Up! and came up with a few refs to the Coles Crane & the Diamond T in the forums, but no pictures .... More extensive research, or even a question over there, may yield something ....
Anyway, this appears to be a Commonwealth issue & I'm going to bow out .... But sure want to see a picture anyway !!!

G'day Stuart,
If you’re interested, at the shop where I work we have a deceased estate coming up for auction/resale in the next few weeks to help out the modeller’s family. In these 700 odd kits there is a resin Real Models Diamond T and trailer kit in 1/35. A few of the parts have been cleaned up but the whole kit is there. At this stage the kit will go up on eBay for auction. The last one we saw on eBay (29 Jan 06) went for around $330 AUD. Any interested persons should let us know and we will advise them when the auction will start.
You can get more info on this and the kit list by emailing [email protected]
Cheers Jason
