What is the best way to get an accurized M5 Stuart tank? Is there some way to kit bash the AFV Club M3A3 with the Tamiya M5 to create some variant of the M5 or M5A1?

Rob,

The best way would be to get the formations conversion kit, It is designed for the AFV club M3A3 (best stuart in plastic by light years)

It would be very difficult to scratchbuild the modifcations.

The rear hull of the Tamiya M5 is way out, the raised portion of it is far too short, so you couldnt really graft that on to the M3A3, plus the upper hull sides on the M5 were straight, no angled like the M3A3.

Regards

Joe

Hi,

I went to Google and searched for M5A1 Stuart interiors and exteriors and clicked on Knee deep in Stuart soup. Try that and maybe it will help. Ed.

IMHO the best approach is to use Formations Models M5 Stuart kit instead. It combines a reworked/detailed resin hull and AFV Club M3A3 components.

Actual vehicle references are not an issue. The Armor Center library is down the hall from my office and there is an M5A1 on display at the Patton Museum is about a ½ mile from my house.

Thanks for pointing me towards the Formation conversion. I picked up an M3A3 real cheap and wanted to do something different with it. I was planning on back dating the M5A1 to an M5 with the Academy turret.
