I'm working on a Vietnam era M548 and I'm loading it up with a bunch of 8 inch artillery shells. I'd like to add the powder canisters to the load but haven't been able to find any info as to how they were shipped.

The closest I've been able to find is the Verlinden set that shows four strapped together. However, the way they have them strapped, the wood planks on the bottom wouldn't be secured. Verlinden Item (and yes, I know these are 175mm shells not 8 inch but the photos are the same for both kits).

Any info or photos would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Sherb

I've seen both green bag and white bag palletized with groups of three criss-crossing each other, about four to five levels high, and banded with metal bands. They were delivered on a HEMMIT with crane.
I've also seen them delivered individually out of the back of the ammo truck, and were probably picked up from the ASP this way.

Your best bet would be to ask HeavyArty....he's the artillery guru

18Bravo covered it. Layers of 3 or 4, depending on the caliber it goes to, with the canisters alternating direction every layer. Usually about 4 high as well. All banded together on a small pallet.
