I’ve recently received my 1st German tank. The Hasegawa’s 1:72 Tiger I aust.E.
I’ve still got time before I start as I’ll be building this kit in the meow campaign but I’m going to need some things for it.

1st of all I need to know what colors to use. The instruction list Mr. Color and Hobby color paints but I use mostly model master. I also recently deleted all my internet bookmarks and lost the online paint chart I had. So if anyone could tell me the colors I need in Model master or point me to a conversion chart I wold really appreciate it.

2nd I need to do 1:72 scale Zimmerit.
The instructions list to do this by melting the plastic with glue and indenting it but I’m afraid I’ll mess up I’m thinking of using putty but would like to know what the best putty to use would be? Preferably something that could be removed without too much trouble if I do mess up.
Also what are some good tools to use to shape the zimmerit with?

Thanks.

This is my favorite on-line color chart reference point. Hope it helps.

My condolences on your choice of Tiger kit. Eduard makes a set of photo etched zimmerit for the kit (22045), makes it a little easier than trying to zimmerit it yourself.

This site has some info on the various Tiger 1 kits: http://www.ontheway.org.uk/articles/tigercompare.htm

Mike thanks for the link/ it looks like it has a lot of good information just not what I’m looking for as I don’t know the fs number for the colors.

Robin thanks. I didn’t have much to chose from when I got it. I’ll probably do a little work on some of the parts to make it look better.

I really don’t want to use a PE set on it considering the kit itself was only $6.

I understand. I have most of the Hasegawa kits and while some are nice, the tracks were always subpar compared to other manufacturers. I've built that kit within the past few years and it is not a bad model, it's just that other kits are better.

I'd try the hot knife method, and use this as a test subject.

Found this colour chart for German AFVs, the base colour for your Tiger should be Dunkelgelb 7028 if it's a late one

Oops sorry guys I guess I can use Mikes link.
Just noticed in the instructions that Mr color and hobby color are “Gunze Sangyo paints”.

Robin I never heard of that method before. I have a wood burner that can use a knife tip that should work pretty good I think.

David your chart should come in helpful as well thanks.

Would zimmerit be visible on a 1/72 Tiger?

1:1 the grooves in zimmerit are about a broad and as deep as your finger (I measured this with my Mk 1 finger at the Tank Museum, Bovington).

In 1/72 I'm not sure you can properly represent such a small detail. try looking at a photo of a Zimm'd Tiger where the tank is the same size as the 1/72 kit - if you can make out the zimm in the photo, then go for it - if not then you should be able to save yourself some time and heartache!

Sean I never thought about that. I think you may be right.
