I decided to re-use and old M113 I have and as its a bit smashed up make it into a burnt out vehicle. Has anyone got any pics of knoeck out M113's in the nam and also what is the likely hood of an M113 being knocked out during Tet and simply bulldozed into the side of the road-or is leaving KO'ed vehicles about not good for moral.

Hi Rob

Here's one :

Here's another one :

If you have some time to spare, you can browse through the photo albums you can find here :
http://www.hotkey.net.au/%7Emarshalle/images/index1.html and you may find interesting pics...I know it's Australian stuff, but destroyed M113s look alike whatever the owner....

wooah! I think mine needs a bit more damage, all ive done is create and RPG hole in the side and show heavy rust and burning on the side, do you reckon the whole engine would explode from an internal fire/rpg round to the side?

Well, I'm no expert Rob but I think that the engine is still there on the last picture. This picture illustrated the fire hazard after hitting a mine or taking a RPG hit....
Talking about other M113 users here's one from Israel :

Maybe one wrecked M113 like this would fit the bill....

Rob,
If I'm not mistaken, the M113's had an aluminum hull, so there would be no rust after the fire like on a steel hulled vehicle.

the M-113 is aluminum - so no rust. Other than than the blacken areas the rest would look ashen grey/white.

Ditto Jesse ! Fire can even melt some parts of the APC, like the roadwheels (just like on the IDF M113 picture....)

Good photos Frenchy. I remember these vehicles. This was just outside the south gate of our base camp. This was in the beginning of the TET Offensive of 68.

Thanks for the help everyone, you're all right the M113 is aluminium-damnit I just covered mine in rust not thinking. From what I can see the whole damn thing seems to fall apart, im guessing that al the paint would melt of revealling bare alluminium underneath. Looks like mine will needa lot of work!

Yeap

Just an idea for you, try to burn a coke can to see on small scale how Alu will behave and find nice piece of melt alu to include. The Mp is about 660 C you can melted easily.
Please share the results.

Real stuff always better.
