Hi everyone,
I just purchased a package of bare metal foil (matte aluminum). I have never experienced this stuff before. I am considering it to cover a Monogram AT-6. My question is;
Can the raised detail puncture through the foil if you rub or burnished it ? If so, does this happen easy or do you have to work at it ?
Sincerely,
Brian

Yes the raised detail can and will puncture the foil. Do you have to work at it to get it to puncture ? Yes and No, depends on the detail feature. I wish you luck with your effort and look forward to seeing it. Since the advent of good metalizers I've given up on Metal Foil, except for "special" purposes.

Hi Chuck,
Thank you for the input. It sounds like I have my work cut out for me. I have wondered about the Metalizers, SNJ and whats the other stuff people say is better than either of the previous two.
Frankly these items make me feel uncomfortable the way I here descriptions of the prep process and that the slightest of scratches will show up.
I suppose I will never know until I try though.
Sincerely,
Brian

Just want to say that personally, I've had a great experience with metalizers by Model Master / Testors. They are airbrush ready ( Airbrush only actually) And they go on real smooth, no lumps or spatter or anything like that. After about 15 minutes, take a soft cloth to the painted surface. I couldn't get over how they buff up! I think you should give it a shot! My personal favorite as of now is burnt metal, which turns up great exaust pipes, engine components etc. Also , you don't have to worry about missing any details, although it is a trick sometimes to buff arround rivets and the like, On the other hand, if you miss those areas, it looks kind of look grime or dust build up, where in reality it would deffinately be! I wonder how a whole jet would look covered in that stuff!
