This is not a technique question, but a technical one.
I was using my airbrush which I've had for some time now when suddenly, the sound in the piston compressor went from it's usual high pitch tone to a flat dulled out one. At the same time I lost most of the air pressure to the point that the whole device is unusable. I'm not really sure where to start and I don't want to open the thing up until I know what I'm looking for. (I can't believe tomorrows Sunday and my airbrush doesn't work! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH ) Any suggestions? A thank-you in advance to anyone who may be of assistance! ~JOE

Sounds like the diaphram(rubber plate) in cylinder has gone -------torn at edge probably ---so no air being pumped --------temp repair ----bread wrapper (platsic type)--folded over all the plate nearest tear--super glued to plate both sides--prick out holes and trim --reasemble ............my repair lasted 3 months until I got a replacement part

Barv's right on spot I think!! My second compressor just died, by the same way... 2 monthes after warranty went out. They were really willing to help me after I told them when I bought it!! The replacement part cost almost as an entirely new compressor!! So I told politely that they would never have my busness again. Consequently went out and bought one I have been eyeing for ages... and I'm not crying...
Cheers!!

Thanks very much guys! It seems like I'm on the right track... except I dont see any rubber plate... where should I be looking... could it be a rubber ring around the large piston?

Thanks for the help guys... turns out it wasn't a rubber plate. When I took off the head to the part above the main piston, I found the problem... A broken spring. aboe the main piston was a chamber with two small disks, each with its own spring. Half a spring from an old rc car suspension later, all is well! Thanks again for your replies! Now, I gotta go paint my quad...
