Greetings all,

I'm just after an opinion on Sponson Fillers for the Tamiya M4. Formations do a set at around £5.00.

Do you think they are necessary or just a waste of money. Has anyone used them and if so were that a good fit or did they cause problems.

While we are on Shermans, a question about Idler wheels. I've built or an building the following Sherman versions:

Mk 1 using the Tamiya M4 kit
Firefly VC using the Dragon kit
Mk V using Dragon body and Tamiya Turret
and a Firefly IC using the Tamiya body and the Dragon Turret.

All the box art would indicate that the Idler wheels on these tanks have rubber around them. I know some were made just of cast steel. Should I just follow the box art? I've looked at lots of pictures but it's hard to tell whether the Idler wheels are cast steel or cast steel surrounded by rubber, or doesn't it really matter!!

Thanks

Al

If you go here you can download and print up templates to fill the sponsons using plastic card. It's a pdf file. Print it up, glue to card trim to fit.

Hi Rick,

Thanks, that's sorted out that query. Box art is obviously just for show.

I'm assume you're excluding idlers with the HVSS.

Formations product is a quick fix. Not bad if they're easily available. For me, I'll see Rob at Formations at shows each year. For you in the UK, it might not be worth the shipping.

It's just simple piece. Very accurate

Hi Roy,

Thanks, I can get them here in the Uk no problem but I think I might try Dave's idea first, it's a lot cheaper and more of a challenge.

Greetings all,

Just and update on Dave's quick fix - templates are a fraction short so best measure the distance first. Need a bit of adjustment at the engine end, but apart from that at £1.50 who can complain.

Thanks Dave, the next set will be better!!! (ha ha)

Hi Dave,

I remember reading somewhere - measure twice and then cut - pity I didn't think about it but its a good fix for the problem - cheap and easy, even for me.

Nice Cursader by the way.
