Hello,

Is it possible to use the M60A3-style roadwheels for a Desert Storm USMC M60A1?

I read somewhere that these tanks sometimes use a combination of these roadwheels but I havent found an image that can confirm this.

Im also unsure which is the steel and aluminum(?) versions so clarifications would be nice.

Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

By this time, the Marines generally stuck to the smooth steel style wheels, but I have a photo of one that has a spare finned aluminum wheel. In the Army we habitually ran with both types. The only restriction was that both wheels on the same road wheel arm had to be the same type.

Here is a photo of me hanging out on my old M60A3, if you look closely, you can see both styles of road wheels. The idler wheels and the #3 road wheels (below my feet) are aluminum finned road wheels.

Howdy Robin and Randy. The USMC used both smooth steel and ribbed aluminum roadwheels on its fleet of M60A1s. Both could be seen in service from 1976 -1992. We pretty much stuck to whatever the mighty supply system pushed on us. So if one is modeling a USMC M60A1 during DESERT STORM either type of wheel would be appropriate. Out here.
