Simon, this is a very popular topic, so if you run a search on "zimmerit" on this site you should find lots of documentation on the different techniques!

Hi Simon,
As Ropi just said there are lots of ways/variations on how to apply them and what material to use. I for one use the Elmer's wood putty and tamiya basic putty. I apply them using the AFV Zimm tool.
If you may permit, here is a sample (this is a Tamiya Mid-Production Tiger)
Before

After
![](../../../img.photobucket.com/albums/v230/warthog2/Tiger-I---Mid/Img_2876.jpg)
Here is sort list of what is used..
1) After market PE zimms
2) Wood Putty
3) Spackle
4) Tamiya Putty
5) Hot knife method
Believe me, there is a big variety of materials that can be used for zimmerit -- some even use tissue paper..
Hope this helps:-H
