Just thought i would let you all know of my recent purchase.
I have been thinking of buying an air brush setup but was put off by prices,i saw a product in a local wholesalers and gave it a go.It is a RIO professional airbrush for painting fingernails.I have tried it today on a tank i am building and i am impressed so far, have not attempted fine lines but for base coating with acrylics it is great.
The kit comprises airbrush,300ml can propellant, bottles of paint and instruction video.
For anyone on a low budget or unsure of trying an airbrush for the first time it is worth giving it a go,mine cost me less than £40 from a wholesaler called MACRO,i have also seen them for sale in ARGOSstores.RIO also sell this product as a instant tanning product.
The supplied paints arent much use but you can wash them out and the bottles for your own paints.

This looks to me like the Badger 350 single action airbrush which can be bought for a similar price from other sources. In his Osprey modelling book on the early Panzer IVs, Tom Cockle says he uses one of these exclusively for painting his models, so there's no reason to expect poor results from it. Looks like a good buy! Aha the joys of Macro.

Generally, most air-brushes actually perform better with enamels once properly thinned, acrylics often gum up a bit. All airbrushes should spray most liquid mediums such as ink, enamel and acrylic. Ideally thin the paint to the consistancy of skimmed milk and practice. I'd suggest always using the recommended thinner as well. Some people use lots of different things to save money, but till you've tried and tested a non-standard combination you don't know what's going to happen. I tried windscreen fluid for cars in acrylic and it produced a horrible solution, it did however end up in the car (not mixed with paint).
