I found a nearly completed Panther D in my closet today. It was built a few years ago when I didn't have the courage to do zimmerit.
Where zimmerit always applied to Panther D's?
The problem is that all the tools and stuff is attached to the Panther, so doing zimmerit now would be a hard task...

Were there always zimmerit on Panthers?

As a general rule:
Early Ausf "D"s did not have zimm (unless field applied)
Late Ausf "D"s had zimmerit
All Ausf "A"s had zimmerit
Early Ausf"G"s had zimmerit
Late Ausf "G"s (early-lates had it, later issues did not- After Sept 44')
Hope this helps..
