Hi Everyone,
I,m just getting back to moddeling after about 20ish years, but who's counting
So I went onto ebay and bought a 1/35 Bmw r75 + sidecar and made a start but it quickly became clear that some painting would be required before assembly. I want to portray this as an early production european version, so which grey do I use? I have easy access to a supply of Humbrol paints,, one of which is called matt tank grey, however the Tamiya recommendation of "field grey" equates to a green in the Humbrol range...can anyone help...
This is a great site BTW
Cheers David

Humbrol 67 is Panzer Grey. Use that on the motorcycle.

Howdy David:

Wow, dude, I really dig that neato callsign, Wingnut!
Clever. . . :-)

I apologize in advance for bringing up an aspect of
using colors on opentoped vehicles — I'm meaning
the side car, here — because at this stage the addage
"keep it simple" is one to heed, fer sure.

However, that being said, I try to think of what color
to use in terms of how long the "vehicle" has been in
the front, what kind of combat it has seen, what were
the effects of weather, wind and burning sun on the
area exposed to Mother Nature. Of course, when
that aspect is considered, at least IMHO, then specific
colors with certain Humbrol paint numbers CAN
become somewhat of a moot point. I'm only wanting
to delve into the "food for thought" here Wingnut and
realize you can start to contemplate those kinds of
subtle variations to colors and tones. . . . later. But
the main thing is just have fun. Chose a way of
modeling that you're comfortable with. And you're right,
the Big A group can answer your questions.

Wishing you well,
wingnut

Thanks Mike, picked one up today (and a few other bits), Let the games bigin :-)
Thanks for the encouragement Rick, I may have a go at weathering the kit later, I did dabble in GW minatures many years ago so I have used inks and drybrushing before, but still will have to teach the hands to follow the brain again
Cheeers David
