I have looked around and found only a couple of kits for the US AVLB. They are either not worth buying or too expensive. Call me nuts, but I am looking for plans so I can scratchbuild one of these things. I have a chassis (in fact several M48/M60 chassis) that I can put it on. I just need good, accurate plans for the bridge itself with dimentions. I have plenty of pictures and a line drawing of the converted chassis.

Thanks for any help!!

I got some manuals just fine,,, but am still looking for dimensions. I have lots of drawings. I know the length of parts, but not the thickness at the center or the different sections. It would be a heck of a project, but a fun one.

I don't know where you are, but there is a bridge that you can walk up to, around, over, and under at the Engineer Museum in Ft. Leonard-Wood, MO. Might be worth a trip if you are anywhere close. If not, check at other military museums in your area. I would also check to see if there are any Nat'l Guard or Reserve engineer units in your area. They may still have an AVLB, and many armories have old bridges being used for service or wash racks. Check out in back (motorpool) of any armories near to you.

No luck there... I live on an island in Alaska. I don't plan on being in Missouri soon. If I were still in Washington I could go to the National Guard Armory in Everett... no chance of me seeing one here, sorry to say.

There is a French book "Militar's kits 4" published by MK Editions ( which is closely linked to MK 35, a French resin kit manufacturer) in 1992, that presents a scratchbuilt ALVB with several scale drawings and a few b&w pictures. I have this book but I'm afraid that scanning this article would have poor results, qualitatively speaking . If you want, I could make a try... (of course, it's written in French and dimensions are in millimeters)

Try dropping a line to Mac Johnston at Faith dot Johnston at tpk dot net

Tell him Mike gave you his address.

He's not a big internet user, but did win an AMPS gold with a re-built/scratchbuilt AVLB starting with the I Corps conversion (read as : useless). He also won an AMPS gold with an AEF S-Tank, so he's got some mad skillz..

he got in touch with the folks at Ft Lenord Wood and got lots of useful info.

He's a pretty good guy.

HTH,
Mike
