Hi Gino

Are the tracks on this m113 kit still used in Iraq or do you need to get AM ones.

Thanks
paul

As Gary said, most still use this style track. Some have the newer Diehl tracks as well.

Here's one belonging to the 1st Armored Division :

Talking about these tracks, do "Diehl" tracks = T150 tracks ? Is it only a matter of 2 different designations for the same type of tracks ?

TIA

Yes, the new, rectangular block track (as pictured above) is T150 track, also made by and called Diehl tracks. The older track is T130 track.

FYI, the Diehl tracks are available in resin from 'Perfect Scale': http://www.perfect-scale.com/Neue_Dateien/M113%20track.html and check http://www.perthmilitarymodelling.com/reviews/vehicles/psm/psm113.htm for a review. Also available in North America from Trackjam Models:

I just found that I have the Tamiya TAM35071 M-577 Command Post Vehicle that I bought years ago. How does it compare with the newer kits like the Academy?

Not horrible, but not as good as Academy's either. It is the same as the older (now upgraded to an OIF A2, but not by much) Tamiya M113A1. It can be made into a nice model, especially by adding the necessary parts from an Academy M113A2 to make it into an M577A2 or A3. The Academy interior (or Tamiya's older one) will drop right in it as well. It can be made into a nice model.

Agree with Gino, in fact I have the old Tamiya M113, M577 and just bought yestarday another Academy M113 "A2". The real issues, in my opinion, about the M577 it´s the fact that has no interior at all and the fitting of the extension for the troop compartement. But like Gino said, it can be turned into a nice model with a little patience.

Cheers.

Hi Guys

Thanks for the info, I think I will just use the tracks in the kit. Do AFV also make the newer version as a set that you can buy on their own. I thought I might of saw a set in the past but not really sure.

Thanks Paul.

AFV doesn't make them, they do have the standard track as a seperate indi-link set. Check Jim's post about 5 up for the T150 track in resin. These are the only set of them that I know of.

That is not an issue, Klaus, it is a challenge. :-)

I just love the M-577. You can rather easily convert it to whatever you want. And I command one for a living...

Erick, you´re INSANE :-) :-) :-) a challenge indeed, my friend...

Lucky you, you work on one :-) :-) :-)

BTW Wonderful work on it, I´l try to put some wiring in mine, mainly on the radios, but the wires in front of the drivers position are awsome dude! ......

I just love the little fellow, lucky me I was able to pick (another) one in the LHS, the Academy M113 A2...too much time without getting one (3 weeks) :-) :-) :-)

cheers
