Ok Campers,

I have started the painting process. Up first is the turret interior.

First pic: Base coated in Tamiya Hull red, then post shaded in Hull Red + Buff. Stippled masking agent applied.

Lower portion of turret basket masked off.

Vallejo Black Grey applied and re-masked.

Vallejo Light Sand applied.

Masking removed.

Seats and Turret transvers/gun elevation control painted 50/50 Vallejo Gloss / Flat black. Wear added to Turret transvers/gun elevation control with Tamiya Flat Aluminum.

Upper half of internal turret received same treatment.

Cheers!

This effect just looks amazing - really realistic in my opinion. What did you use for masking?

Very impressive work John. The use of liquid masking agent for the chiped paint effect, is very effective.
Do you use some sort of sponge, for the uneven apllication of the masking agent?

You achived great effect.
How long do you let first layer to dry before you start work with second layer (or another color)?

That is truely noteworthy. I think you need to do a write up at least on the details on how you did this. I think we all would like to mimic it. The only sad thingwill be to cover it all up. I think I would "cheat" in a show and take an interior picture to put next to the tank :-)

John

Superb finish, and thanks for the technique. Is there a quick way to remove the masking fluid? Removing it .5mm at a time drives me crazy!!

Brian, the quick way to remove the masking fluid is by dipping a few cotton buds in the fluid and allowing it to dry. Then use these to simply rub over the area, and it comes off quite easily without damaging the painted area.

questions questions all about the Mask
How did you remove the mask? I have used a sharpened toothpick for chipping liquid mask.... Is that what you did?

Answers. The Masking agenit is Gunze Mr. Masking Sol. I use a torn kitchen green scrubbie to apply the mask, and just as Vinnie said to remove it. I only waited maybe 10 minutes between layers. I think thats all of em! Thanks for taking the time to comment!

Great effect John. I for one would love a detailed blow by blow from start to finish on how you did it & what you used.
